Venetian plaster, also known as polished plaster or stucco veneziano, is a traditional Italian finish made from slaked lime and finely ground marble dust. Venetian artisans refined the old Roman lime plasters into the marble-effect interiors still standing in Venice today, and the method has barely changed in centuries: two to five thin coats worked with a steel trowel, then a final burnishing pass that compresses the surface until it takes on a natural sheen.

Two things follow from that. It is a real, three-dimensional surface rather than a printed pattern, so light moves across it. And every wall is one of a kind.
